Florida Approved

The State of Florida requires all exterior doors to be tested and certified for use.
LaCantina Doors are one of the few folding/bifold doors available in both an all-wood and wood-clad that carry Florida Product Approval. Our all-aluminum system is engineered to the same standards and is currently undergoing final testing to submit for approval as well.

LaCantina Doors comply with the 2007 Florida Building Code and are approved for use in areas outside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone or HVHZ.

Florida Building Code

Florida building code requires that products meet statewide standards for use in both new construction and remodel. Certain geographic regions within Florida require higher standards than others. The state of Florida has established a formal product approval procedure to accommodate this for product manufacturers.

High-Velocity-Hurricane-Zone (HVHZ)

This is the term referred to essentially the Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Miami-Dade certification is the highest level standard designed to protect structures from wind-borne debris that would be a result of the hurricane force winds. There is more than one type of Miami-Dade certification, essentially one with water and without.

In HVHZ areas, products can be used that do not carry the Miami-Dade certification, so long as an “approved impact protective system” is installed. Exterior shutters are an example.

Approved Impact System

LaCantina Doors Impact Rated Aluminum Thermally Controlled systems achieved an outstanding DP 70 hurricane/impact rating.

Using the designated test methods for the critical testing protocols to comply with requirements of the Florida Building Code including High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) and other wind-borne debris areas:

  • Large Missile Impact
  • Uniform Static Air Pressure Loading
  • Cyclic Wind Pressure Loading
  • Water Infiltration and Resistance
  • Forced Entry

LaCantina Doors met and exceeded the requirements set forth by Miami Dade County.

Our first ever Impact Rated system defines contemporary design while providing ultimate extreme weather performance, protection and safety.
